Course Description

Tax, Interest and Pay

Class 9 prepares you for the world of work and money. You'll learn how businesses mark up prices, how GST is added to almost everything you buy, how simple interest works on savings and loans, how to read your first payslip, and how KiwiSaver can set you up for a comfortable retirement — starting now.

What you'll learn

  • Calculate percentage mark-ups and find selling prices from cost prices
  • Add GST (15%) to any price and remove it from a GST-inclusive amount
  • Use the simple interest formula I = Prt to calculate interest earned or owed
  • Rearrange the formula to find the principal, rate, or time
  • Read and interpret a payslip — including gross pay, PAYE, and net pay
  • Understand how KiwiSaver works, including employee and employer contributions and fund types
