Course Description

NCEA Level 2 Finance

Class 12 is the most comprehensive class in the programme — six chapters spanning mathematics, accounting, economics, business studies, statistics, and civics. You'll analyse business performance with financial ratios, evaluate investment decisions using NPV, interpret economic policy, and understand how NZ's tax system actually works.

What you'll learn

  • Apply compound interest and annuity calculations to savings and loan scenarios
  • Calculate and interpret financial ratios including current ratio, gross profit margin, and net profit margin
  • Evaluate capital investment decisions using payback period and Net Present Value (NPV)
  • Explain how fiscal policy (government) and monetary policy (Reserve Bank) influence the NZ economy
  • Critically interpret financial data, including identifying survivorship bias and correlation vs causation
  • Calculate income tax across NZ's progressive tax brackets and explain the role of GST and company tax
