Year 11

Course Description

NCEA Level 1 Finance

Class 11 is where financial knowledge becomes financial power. You'll apply the maths you know to real business situations — calculating compound interest with precision, reading a business income statement, finding the break-even point for a product, and understanding how businesses raise the money they need to grow.

What you'll learn

  • Apply compound interest and reverse percentages in business and investment contexts
  • Read an income statement and calculate gross profit and net profit from real figures
  • Use break-even analysis to find the minimum sales volume a business needs to cover its costs
  • Classify fixed and variable costs and explain how they affect a business's pricing decisions
  • Compare debt and equity financing and evaluate the trade-offs between them
